Onewheel

Onewheel is a self-balancing one-wheeled electric skateboard. Following a successful Kickstarter Campaign the device was designed and manufactured domestically in Mountain View and Santa Cruz.

I developed the very first OneWheel iOS and Android apps, and worked with the hardware team on the BLE protocol between the device and the phone. This was when they were still a small, scrappy startup in Mountain View. I still remember the first time riding the OneWheel prototype and how amazing it was.

Both iOS and Android Apps were developed as a virtual dashboard for the device, allowing monitoring of dozens of attributes such as power, motor, accelerometer, distance, etc. via Bluetooth Low-Energy, embeddable SDK, and custom firmware protocol. The app can also switch ride-modes (much like a car’s transmission) to adjust speed and self-balancing settings.
